I know that I personally struggle to really enjoy milestones when they happen, which is why I actually really enjoy the end of the year. It’s important to step back and see how far you’ve come in a mere 365 days.
In July, I spent an amazing two days in the presence of doulas from across the country, as the event photographer for Doula Training International’s inaugural Born Into This conference.
The conference encouraged attendees to ponder what they’ve been born into—whether it be privilege, marginalization or somewhere in-between—and what they can do as doula’s to help others overcome oppression in the birthing room.
If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably noticed in the past six months that my account is 50% content created at Native Hostels. That’s because I have had one of the most fun gigs of my year, as the resident photographer for BossBabesATX’s DJ residency at the venue.
Here are 4 of my favorite spots in Austin to document ~love~. Do you have your own secret underrated spots around town? Let me know! (Better yet, take me there so I can take your pictures!)
I recently used the library for the most fitting session ever—new branding photos for local writing consultant and freelance writer, Liz Feezor. A writer, surrounded by books and magazines? It was PERFECT.
Without further ado, meet Talan—founder of PitchAtX, a company that partners with individuals who struggle with making speeches to help them from "presentation ask to mic drop." Presentations are pretty unavoidable in the real world, so I think it's bomb that Talan uses her eight years of speech competing experience (she's nationally ranked, woo woo!) and a Master's in political communication to help others become better communicators.
I booked another flight to Denver in less than a week after I arrived home from visiting in April—so I guess you could say the city left a good impression on me. I visited Denver in June to see my best friend, Devon, yet again and to see our all-time favorite band First Aid Kit perform at the Red Rocks Amphitheater.
It's both exciting and incredibly nerve-wracking to try something new, right? Those were pretty much the emotions pulsing through me after I advertised on Instagram that I would be doing couple session for free in February. To be honest: I did it to get some more experience working with couples before I started charging money. I knew once I did a session, I would create photos I loved and have the confidence to jump head-first into engagement sessions in no time.
